Aiginiakos looking to leave Panionios out
Panionios was defeated in the first match by 1-0 and this result can become very tricky in the case that Aiginiakos will manage to score today. The away stats of Aiginiakos in Football League (3W-2D-3L, goals 12-6) tell us they are not to be underestimated as they have gathered 11 of their total 25 pts when playing away. Furthermore they have already left PAS Giannina out of the competition without even receiving a goal. In fact if we add their home match against Panionios, this Football League club has managed to keep a clean sheet in three matches against the two Super League clubs.
The preview and prediction:
Panionios comes from a very important home win in Super League against PAOK (2-0). Their early goal at 6’ stressed their opponent who immediately started looking for the equalizer. PAOK had an attempt at the bar at 12’ (Athanassiadis) and a total of 17 attempts on goal but they had a new average performance. Panionios took advantage of it and doubled their goals at 61’. Mr. Panagopoulos has asked his players for an early goal which will allow them to stress their opponent. The only reported absence is Kabadais (FWD/15/1 goal in Super League).
Aiginiakos comes from a home win against Giannitsa (1-0) which was their second consecutive after the emphatic away win against Pierikos (1-5). Their overall stats in Group 2 (6W-7D-3L, goals 24-12) show they are a tough team to beat whether they play home (3W-5D-0L, goals 12-6) or away (3W-2D-3L, goals 12-6). They are also undefeated in the Cup competition where they have faced Giannitsa (away 2-2, OT 2-3), PAS Giannina (0-0 away, 1-0 at home) and Panionios (1-0 at home). Mr. Nikolaidis is pleased to see his players being competitive against any opponent. Fabinho (MID/13/1 goal in Football League) is the only reported absence for this match.
Betting Pick: The draw at halftime @ 2.15
It is quite interesting to see that Panionios has managed to win Panathinaikos (3-0), Atromitos (2-1) and PAOK at home this season but they have failed to get the win against weaker clubs like Panthrakikos (1-1), Xanthi (0-0), Aris (1-2) and or OFI (0-0) who are not as strong when playing away. Aiginiakos on the other hand has been defeated only three times this season and all of them were by exactly one goal:
29/09/13: Gazoros – Aiginiakos: 1-0
08/12/13: Iraklis – Aiginiakos: 2-1
22/12/13: Kavala – Aiginiakos: 1-0
Their performances tell me they are strong at defense and this is why I will risk they will make it until halftime having in mind that Panionios is more dangerous when facing the “strong” clubs. Another good option is the HT/FT bet Draw/Panionios @ 4.10. There is no doubt in my mind the home team is stronger but I am not convinced yet they will not need overtime to qualify.
