Format of the Cup competition in Greece for 2011-12
The Greek Cup in its current form is played in 8 rounds. Until the Round of 32 all matches are single with overtime and penalty shootout if needed.
First Round: 10 out of the 32 teams from the two groups of Football League 2 participate in one leg matches. The home team is chosen by a draw. Outcome: 5 teams
Second Round: The 5 winners of the first round and the remaining 13 teams of Football League 2 will play at home against the 18 teams of Football League in one leg matches.
Third Round: This round is used to reduce the 18 teams who have come this far to 16. Only 4 teams of Football League 2 and Football League will be drawn to play in two pairs.
Round of 32: The 16 qualified teams will face at home after a draw, the 16 teams of the Super League.
Round of 16: At this round things are different; a new draw will determine the home team of each pair but if the outcome is a draw there will be a re-match with overtime and penalty shootout if needed. Away goals rule is NOT calculated.
Quarter Finals: A new draw, will determine the 4 pairs who will play in double matches. Away goals rule is NOT calculated, only overtime and penalty shootout if needed after the second match.
Semi Finals: Same rules as in Quarter Finals.
Final: Single match with overtime and penalty shootout if needed.
