Kavala left AEK out of the Round of 16
The decision for double matches in the Round of 32 this season was expected to make things harder for the Football League and Football League 2 clubs. On the contrary, they seem to work for them.
The players of Kavala (Football League) probably felt jealous for the triumph of Fostiras (Football League 2) over Panionios yesterday and decided to give their best to leave AEK out of the competition. Mr. Lienen decided to make some changes in the lineup today but AEK was still a ghost of the past. They had the control of the match but they seemed unable to be a real threat to their opponents. Kavala scored at 53’ with a former player of AEK, Nsaliwa but, even then, AEK seemed unable to react. Nothing changed until the final whistle and Kavala qualified to the next round easier than expected.
The rest of the matches:
Kerkyra was expected to have many changes in the starting lineup today with coach Mantzios testing some players. The home team was in control but they did not really deserve to win Tyrnavos who concentrated more on a descent performance before leaving the competition.
Veria showed up determined for the win in the away match against Thrassyvoulos. They qualified to the next round by scoring one goal in each half (35’, 84’) with the home team unable to do anything to react.
Pierikos collapsed after the two quick goals they received in the first half (3’, 32’) by Vassileiou. The same player scored for the hat-trick at 51’, Dimou scored an own goal at 59’ and the nightmare for the home team ended at 88’ with a new goal by Lisgaras. The players of Levadiakos continued their last good performances by qualifying easily to the next round.
