Dellas: “Confidence is our main problem”
Asteras Tripolis was on top form before the break having five consecutive wins in all competitions (Super League, Cup and Europa League). On the contrary Atromitos disappointed their supporters with the seventh defeat (Panathinaikos 1-2) in their last eight games in Super League. The debut of Dellas at their bench did not help but the break gave him the time he needed to work. According to his statements the main problem of Atromitos is the low confidence of the players. The preview and betting pick:
Analysis: Asteras Tripolis – Atromitos
*Referee: Georgios Kominis. His record in Super League 2015-16: 3 home wins, 0 draws and 0 away wins / Total goals: 7 / Yellow cards 11 (avg. 3.67) / Red cards 0 / Penalties: 0
Asteras Tripolis won the away match against AEK (0-1) ending the undefeated streak of the home team. AEK was in control during the first half but the foolish behavior of Vargas at 45+3 (he kicked Lanzarote) allowed Asteras to have an extra man in the field. The players of Verghetis did not risk too much, they concentrated on their defense and waited patiently for a goal that finally came at 89’ by Papadopoulos. The improvement of the team in defense is obvious and this explains how they quickly climbed at the fourth place of the standings. After all, their offense was never the problem. There are three problems reported.
Injured: Košický (GK/4), Giannoulis (DEF/7), Shkurtaj (FWD/5/1 goal/3 assists)
Atromitos was defeated for one more time in the last home match against Panathinaikos (1-2). Their new coach, Traianos Dellas, came close to a positive debut as his team got the lead at 52’ and had one attempt at the bar at 59’ with the same player, Napoleoni, to secure the win. They did not, so when Panathinaikos scored the equalizer at 72’ (Karelis) things became difficult for them. The two teams had almost the same number of chances (total attempts 11-10) but Panathinaikos had the help of key player Berg who scored at 84’ to give them the win. Dellas stated the main problem of Atromitos is their confidence and I cannot disagree with him. The away match against Asteras will be the last difficult battle in their schedule and a positive result can help the team build their confidence for the relatively easier matches that will follow. There are important absences reported.
Banned: Usero (MID/10)
Injured: Fytanidis (DEF/8), M’Bow (DEF/1), Pitu Garcia (MID/9/1 assist), Umbides (MID/8/1 goal/1 assist)
Betting pick: The win of Asteras Tripolis @ 2.15
Asteras Tripolis has 5/5 home wins against Atromitos since season 2012-13 and, to my eyes, they are the favorite for the win again. I do not underestimate the change at the bench of Atromitos but their many important absences and their poor morale can give one more win to the home team.
