Super League Greece
Analysis, previews and value bets on Super League Greece

Four new coaches

The break for the World Cup Qualifiers is over, Greece completed the Group Stage at the second place (as expected) and we can focus on the domestic championships for a while. Four Super League teams, Apollon Smyrnis, Levadiakos, OFI and Veria replaced their coaches during the break and they are optimistic they will start getting the points they need so badly.

Let’s take a look at the previews and betting picks for Saturday in Super League:

This match was not commented.

PAOK was surprised with the early goal by Panathinaikos (21’ Berg) in their last home match but they responded quickly (27’ Stoch, penalty kick) and turned it around at 48’ (Athanassiadis). Without really showing their usual home strength, the players of Mr. Stevens, got a very important win which kept them at the second place. Panathinaikos came very close to stealing a point at 81’ when Berg lost a penalty kick but my overall impression was that PAOK deserved the win (total attempts on goal 18-9). Vukic is still injured and we need to consider that a total of ten players had obligations with their national squads therefore they did not have time to rest.

Asteras came close to an important win in the home match against Atromitos but they did not manage to hold on to the advantage they got at 86’. Atromitos scored first at 11’ but Asteras showed their usual home strength, they added a lot of pressure to their opponents and they scored the equalizer before halftime (40’ De Blasis). Mr. Verghetis came very close to his first win at the bench when N’Daw scored at 86’ but a new goal for Atromitos at 91 (Brito) saved the day for the team for Peristeri (total attempts 18-8). Coach Verghetis left out Lisgaras because the player was found positive in a doping control. There are no other absences reported.

Betting Pick: Over 2.5 goals @ 2.20

PAOK is strong at home but we must not underestimate Asteras Tripolis because they are very dangerous in offense. Their weak start is mainly caused from their defense and they receive goals relatively easy. The least I can expect in this match is a result of 3+ goals. This is why I also consider the option of Over 3.5 goals @ 4.40 a value bet. To make things short, I believe any odd on the home win below 1.75 is out of the question (at least for me).

Platanias lost the last away match against Ergotelis easier than expected (3-1) and they are still away from wins the new season (0W-5D-2L). At least they managed to win OFI during the break in a friendly match (2-0). Many believe that this will be the last match of Mr. Ouzounidis at the bench of the club especially if Platanias will be defeated heavily. Siopis (MID/4 app) is reported injured but he was not expected to play anyway since he is on loan from Olympiakos. Nazlidis (FWD/7/4 goals) is also injured and he is considered a very important absence in offense.

Olympiakos demolished Veria with 6-0 in the last home match before the break. The score is enough to understand what happened and the only thing that is worth to mention is the new hat trick by Mitroglou which was his third for this season in Super League and fourth if we include the European matches. Coach Michel has a very deep roster but we cannot ignore the obligation of 12 players with their national squads. Yatabaré (FWD/3) and Ibagaza (MID/1) are injured while we should expect a rotation in the lineup before the midweek important away match against Benfica for the Champions League.

Betting Pick: Platanias +0.5 to win @ 4.50

Yes, I am crazy. There is not a team capable of stopping Olympiakos this season and I have no illusions for the difficulty of my choice. Last season when Platanias was promoted to Super League, there were rumors for their good relations with the Champions. We all hurried up to bet on the home side in the match of the second round and Olympiakos demolished them by 0-5.  The only difference was that Olympiakos was in need of a convincing performance-win back then.

This season, Platanias is desperate for points, they are not that bad (at least not as their placement shows) and the players of Olympiakos are already thinking of the away match against Benfica. Matches like this one are good examples of unexpected results that make us wonder what the @#$% happened. This is why I am also willing to take my chances for the win of Platanias @ 17.00. I will just pray Mitroglou will not be on the mood for a new hat-trick tonight allowing Platanias to expand their undefeated home streak (0-4-0).
