9/9 wins and counting…
Olympiacos looks unstoppable this season and, considering the performances I have seen, no one can stop them from winning all domestic titles. Their roster cannot even be compared with most clubs, even title candidates like PAOK and Panathinaikos. I cannot help wondering how and where their winning streak will stop. The preview and betting pick for the home match against Iraklis 1908:
Analysis: Olympiacos – Iraklis 1908
*Referee: Labropoulos Marios. This season: 3 games (1 home win, 1 draw, 1 away win) / Total goals: 6 / Total penalties: 2
Olympiacos got an away win against Veria (0-2) but this time they had to work a lot for it. The home team tried to look the Champions in the eyes and Olympiacos had to wait until 55’ to take the lead (Ideye). A second goal at 74’ by Durmaz locked the win. The players of Veria complained a lot for both goals as Ideye used his hand in the first goal and Durmaz scored with a foul kick but that foul was a wrong referee decision. In the midweek match for the Champions League, Olympiacos struggled to win Dynamo Zagreb (2-1). The players of Silva looked stressed and allowed their opponent to score first at 21’. Fortounis missed a huge chance at 54’ (penalty kick, saved); Pardo scored the equalizer at 65’ and Fortounis made up for the lost penalty kick with the assist to him for the second-winning goal (90’). The new win has improved the chances of Olympiacos for the Round of 16 but they need to stay focused. Coach Silva is expected to rotate the lineup again as the Champions have the luxury of an extremely rich roster.
Injured: Botia (DEF/6/4 goals), Maniatis (MID/0), Bouchalakis (MID/1/1goal), Dominguez (MID/4/1 goal/2 assists)
Other: Pulido (FWD/0)
Iraklis 1908 got a very important win last Monday against Atromitos (2-0). They had a better performance than their stressed and frustrated opponent and locked their win with two goals by Romano at 19’ and 66’. Atromitos looked lost after the first goal, they missed a penalty kick (56’) while the score was at 1-0 and completed their poor performance with two red cards (75’ and 81’). Coach Papadopoulos is feeling safer at the bench at this point but his team is far from safety at this point. In fact they are only two point away from relegation and a point against Olympiacos at Karaiskakis looks like a miracle.
Injured: Lazăr (MID/6/1 assist), Stamou (MID/8)
Betting Pick: Over 3.5 goals @ 2.30
Olympiacos is capable of demolishing any team at Karaiskakis but the real reason behind my choice here is that I expect Iraklis to score. A look at their away stats (1W-2D-1L, goals 4-7) will convince you they are more dangerous when they are not the team that is in control. This also came true in their home matches where they failed to get wins against opponents which were within their reach (Panionios 0-1, Levadiakos 0-1 and Xanthi 1-1) but got surprising points against PAOK (3-3) or Atromitos (2-0). For all the above, the option that Both teams will score @ 3.00 is a value bet I cannot ignore.
