Two teams in good form

Panionios and AEK occupy two of the Play Offs places at the moment although their rosters were not expected to bring them here so easily. The two clubs have gladly accepted the gifts of other candidates like Panathinaikos, PAOK and Asteras Tripolis who keep leaving points here and there. Today they both are expected to look for the win to secure their place although it is too soon to determine if any of them can stay in a Play Offs placement until the end. The preview and betting pick:

Analysis: Panionios – AEK

Panionios was defeated in the last away battle against PAOK (2-1) after an average performance. Coach Ouzounidis stated his team deserved the draw and the truth is the chances of the two teams were almost leveled (total attempts 11-10). However this time Panionios did not have the energy and concentration they showed in past matches. They conceded an early goal at 11’ and despite the fact they answered at 47’ they failed to keep the point although the performance of PAOK was not strong. For the record, the home team scored the winning goal at 79’. The next home match against AEK is considered a rivalry battle and it will be a chance to see is Panionios has the guts to go after a top placement or just go after a safer season than they had in the past.

Absences: None, full roster.

AEK got the win easily (as expected) in the last home match against Kalloni (3-0). They were winning by two goals by halftime (5’, 19’) and scored once more at 62’ after an open match by both sides. Surprisingly Kalloni also had a good number of chances (total attempts 12-14) but the score depicts the difference of the two clubs in terms of their quality. Coach Poyet has every reason to feel pleased for the three consecutive wins after his weak start against Panathinaikos (0-0 away) and Asteras (0-1 at home) but we must acknowledge that Panthrakikos (1-2 away), Panetolikos (2-0 at home) and Kalloni were easier opponents than Panionios will be today. Furthermore, AEK is not as confident when playing away (2W-2D-2L, goals 5-8) and, like Panionios, they will be tested about their real potential today.

Absences: None, full roster.

Betting Pick: Both to score @ 2.00

Panionios looks reliable at home (4W-1D-1L, goals 8-3) and I really cannot explain why they are treated as a favorite especially when they show more determination when facing top clubs like AEK at Nea Smyrni. This match can easily go the wrong way if AEK’s players AEK are not careful. The two teams are definitely capable of scoring at least once and my guess is the only way to see a winner will be with a score of Over 2.5 goals @ 2.30.
