Matzourakis vs. Mantzios
Day 5 will be completed today with the home battle of Kalloni against Panthrakikos. It is rare to see a coach staying at the bench for a full season in Super League but those two clubs are very close to be the exception to this rule. Mr. Matzourakis and Mr. Mantzios took over on May and June 2013 respectively and kept their teams safe in the standings. Their work and especially their results made them the most important asset of their clubs and believe me, they are. The preview and betting pick:
Analysis: Kalloni – Panthrakikos
Mr. Matzourakis was not pleased with the performance of Kalloni in the away defeat from Asteras Tripolis (1-0). His team was surprised by an early goal at 3’ and they were under pressure for most of the match. In fact Asteras deserved a second goal (attempts on goal 19-4) and this explains why the experienced coach characterized the defeat as fair. The home draw in the midweek Cup match that followed against Tyrnavos 2005 (1-1) was considered a negative result. Their lineup was quite different (9/11) but we should keep in mind that their opponent was playing with a man down since 76’.
Injured: Agritis (FWD/0), Camara (FWD/2/1 goal)
Panthrakikos got the first win of the season at home against Panionios (1-0). They looked stressed for it and my overall impression was they could have scored at least one more goal. Mr. Mantzios stated his players were under a lot of pressure because of their great performances last season but they now begin to be calmer and more confident. Panthrakikos also had a midweek home match for the Greek Cup against AEK (0-0) and the final score was fair. They did not look as motivated as their opponent for the win and many believe they do not intend to give their energy to the Cup. There are two absences reported for the next match.
Injured: Fernandes (GK/3), Romeu (MID/0)
Betting Pick: The draw at halftime @ 1.90
The two home wins of Kalloni against Ergotelis (2-0) and Panathinaikos (1-0) were a warning. They will not be an easy opponent for anyone at Mytilini. Their roster is strong enough to keep them away from problems as long as they keep getting points at home. Panthrakikos has improved over the last couple of weeks but their away performances until now are not convincing. They are a tough team and I expect them to make things difficult for Kalloni. They have kept a clean sheet in their two last matches (Super League and Cup) and the draw at halftime came true in their last three (Levadiakos, Panionios, AEK).
The two teams met twice last season and they both got a home win by 2-0. They are both considered stronger at home so, the win of Kalloni @ 2.05 looks fine. The two bets combined give us the Halftime/Fulltime option Draw/Kalloni @ 4.50.
