Constant criticism for the Champions

The long break was not good for Ergotelis and Olympiacos. The team from Crete had just found the way back to positive results (1W-2D-0L in Super League and Cup) after the negative debut of Dermitzakis at the bench. On the contrary, Olympiakos suffered two consecutive defeats from Atromitos (1-0 away) and Malmo FF (2-0 away for the Champions League) and they spent their break with negative comments for everything they did wrong. The preview and betting pick:

Analysis: Ergotelis – Olympiacos

*Midweek match for Olympiacos: Juventus (at home) on Wednesday 22/10/14.

*The two clubs have good relations. Ergotelis is often loaning players from Olympiakos to complete their roster. This season they have three and two of them are not allowed to play.

The last match of Ergotelis was the home draw against Panetolikos (1-1).  Their opponent scored first at 25’ but the players of Dermitzakis added pressure and scored the equalizer at 60’. The draw was fair as Panetolikos was more dangerous in the first half and Ergotelis during the second. To make things short, it would be unfair for any of the two teams to lose. Mr. Dermitzakis is trying to improve his team in defense as they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their 6 official matches (five in Super League and one for the Cup). The same happened in their recent friendly match against Platanias (1-1) on 11/10/14. There are five absences reported.

Banned: –

Injured: Fideleff (DEF/1), Pantelakis (DEF/1), Štraus (MID/1)

Other: Lykogiannis (MID/4/1 goal/1 assist) and Vlachodimos (FWD/3) belong to Olympiakos and they are not allowed to play (contract terms).

The two consecutive defeats Olympiacos from Atromitos (1-0 away) and Malmo FF (2-0 away) have alarmed the officials of the club. The overall performance of the team was very poor, especially in defense. The worst thing is that the Champions were supposed to be highly motivated for the win in both cases and we cannot help wondering what happened to the team that won Atletico Madrid on 16/09/14. Coach Míchel has stated his confidence in his players but the absence of official games over the last two weeks make this match the last test before the important battle against Juventus at Karaiskakis. There six absences reported and a rotation in the starting lineup is taken for granted.

Banned: –

Injured: Siovas (DEF/0), Dossevi (MID/2), Benítez (FWD/4/1 goal)

Other: Abidal (DEF/4), Kasami (MID/5/3 goals) and Afellay (MID/3/1 goal) are out to rest for the important midweek match against Juventus.

Betting Pick: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.80

Ergotelis will probably pay the price of everything that went wrong for Olympiakos lately. The Champions will be after the win to improve their morale and they do have quality players to do it emphatically. I will not be surprised if I see a score like 0-3 or 1-3.
