Anastassiou: “Win in every match and we’ll see”
The winning streak of Panathinaikos in Super League (Atromitos 2-0, PAOK 1-2 away, Veria 2-1 and Panetolikos 0-1 away) was interrupted with the away draw against Asteras Tripolis (1-1). The statements of coach Anastassiou afterwards clearly showed he had the win in mind; it would allow them to become more involved in the fight for the first place. They did not succeed and they wasted a huge chance as both PAOK and Olympiacos lost points. The Greens now want to return to wins and expand their undefeated streak (4W-1D-0L) against Panthrakikos. The only problem is their opponent has not lost in this venue since 2012-13 (1W-1D-0L). The preview and two value bets:
Analysis: Panathinaikos – Panthrakikos
*Anastassiou has faced Roca two times when he was in charge of Olympiacos Volou (Football League). The two teams met in the Cup last season with Olympiacos Volou coming from an amazing winning streak that was interrupted with a humiliating defeat (4-0). The Greens scored only during the second half (48′, 57′, 73′ and 89′) and their last goal came while they were playing with a man down. Roca won the re-match at Volos (1-0) but Anastassiou used a different lineup with many players that were not used.
Coach Anastassiou wanted Panathinaikos to win in the last away match against Asteras Tripolis (1-1) but I cannot really say the draw was a negative result. Most of the action took place during the first half where Asteras had an attempt at the bar (6’), the Greens scored at 30’ to take the lead and then conceded a goal at 36’ which set the final score. The bad weather conditions and the stress of the two teams ruined their efforts during the second half and the result can be characterized as fair although Asteras had more attempts (17-9) for the win.
Absences: Nothing important reported. Anastassiou chose the best possible lineup for this match based on his plans for the three upcoming matches.
Panthrakikos was very unlucky in the last home match against Ergotelis (0-0). They were in total control as their opponent was reluctant to take any risks and they had an important number of chances (attempts 22-6!) to score at least two goals! The bad weather conditions had ruined the field while the goalkeeper of the opponent (Kavoussakis) had the game of his life with 7 saves. The new coach, Cases, is still in search of his first win at the bench and the team looks very improved since his arrival (PAOK 3-2 away, Ergotelis 0-0 unfair). There are two important absences reported for the next match at Apostolos Nikolaidis but Cases stated his team is going there to win.
Injured: Cherfa (DEF/12), Igor de Souza (FWD/9/3 goals)
Betting Pick: Both to score @ 2.50
I really do not understand the low odds on the win of Panathinaikos. They have difficulties keeping a clean sheet because they take many risks in every match, home or away. Normally I would bet against them but the statement of Cases and the last two performances of Panthrakikos (especially the one at Toumba) have alarmed the Greens. I expect to watch a good match with goals from both sides.
I have no intensions to risk on the winner I find it highly probable to see a high score here. The option of Over 2.5 goals @ 1.75 is a bit low but the one for Over 3.5 goals @ 2.75 must not be ignored.
