It is time to start betting

As you have already noticed, I stayed away the first day of the second Round in the Greek Cup. It does not worth to bother with any competition when you have no idea of the teams involved. With Football League having the opening day this weekend and Super League teams giving their key players time to rest, do not be surprised with the results we witnessed.

Super League teams have given us considerably more material so far and from here on you should check the columns PICK OF THE DAY and BOMB of the DAY for betting picks of higher confidence.

Let’s see the previews and betting tips for the Saturday matches of Day 6:

VERIA – ERGOTELIS

Attention: This match is held in a neutral venue, Kaftatzoglio (Thessaloniki ), because of construction works at the venue of Veria.

The defeats continue for Veria. Their most recent was for the Cup from Iraklis Psahnon (3-1 away) where the team used a secondary line up. Before that match, they were also defeated by Panthrakikos (1-0 away) where Veria might was more dangerous during the first half but the home team was the one who to score first at 42′ having their best chance only a minute later. Same things took place during the second half with Veria pushing for the equalizer and Panthrakikos answering with counter attacks. The match ended in 87 ‘ after the red card at Barbas. There has been a lot of criticism for coach Kaanen and a new negative result will probably force the officials of the club to fire him. Guillermo will be the only absence (rupture toggle, he will lose the rest of the season) while served his suspension in the Cup match he is available again.

Ergotelis was more active in the last home match against Panionios but the opponents responded with two good chances in 43 ‘ and 56′. The home team managed to score in 68′ (Bam Bam) despite the fact that opponents had manage to balance the match. Panionios pushed for the equalizer, they managed to score at 91′ a penalty kick by Aravidis and they actually got very close to steal the win at 93’. Ergotelis also had obligations for the Greek Cup, where they resisted but lost the away match from Panathinaikos (2-1) with a late goal despite their changes to the starting lineup. There no absences reported today.

Betting Pick: Both teams to score @ 2.15

I consider Veria more dangerous in offense but their defensive weaknesses keep me away from choosing them for the win. Both teams will look the win and the least I can expect from both of them is score at least once. I would not really worry for fatigue from their midweek matches as they both rested key players for this match.

PANIONIOS – OLYMPIAKOS

Panionios had a weak start during the first half of the away match against Ergotelis. The home team showed up determined to score and they were (relatively) in control in the first 40 minutes. Panionios started to improve and responded with good chances at 43′ and 56’. Ergotelis scored at 68 ‘with Bam Bam while the match was in perfect balance for the two teams. The goal forced players of Panionios to add pressure for the equalizer which came at 91 ‘ after a penalty kick by Aravidis. Panionios also lost a great chance to steal the win at 93’. In the midweek Cup match against Apollon Kalamarias, the players of Mr. Pantelis won easily (3-1) despite changes in the lineup. Kolovos (FWD/5/1) is injured (the player is also on loan from Olympiakos) while Mitropoulos (MID/5) is suspended and they will both lose the match against Olympiakos.

Olympiakos was tired with the players having an average performance in the last away match against Panetolikos. Saviola had an attempt stopped by the goalpost at 26′ and the total 10 attempts on target were not enough to beat the enthusiastic hosts who believed in a positive result and finally got the point of a draw. The Champions gave their answers to the criticism that followed with an emphatic home win for the Cup against Fokikos (5-1). Mr. Michel will not have the services of two injured players, Torres (DEF) and Yiatabare (MID/2). Changes in the lineup are expected before the midweek away match against Anderlecht for the Champions League.

Betting Pick: Over 2.5 goals @ 1.85

Olympiakos will most probably win this match but the bookies are well prepared. A win like 0-1 or 0-2 can be enough but I decided to risk mostly because I believe Panionios is capable of scoring against the champions.
