Olympiacos motivated for a win
Coach Jardim and the chairman of Olympiakos, Mr. Marinakis, have been very clear in their recent statements for the home match against Arsenal. The goal of the club will be the win and nothing less than that. The recent performances the English club have made everyone in Piraeus optimistic for a win that will allow Olympiakos to be included in the strong clubs of the draw that will follow for the Europa League.
Arsenal is having a very poor season and Mr. Wenger is under a lot of pressure lately. I am sure that even the most optimistic enemy of Arsenal could not expect to see them holding the tenth place after 15 matches (5W-6D-4L). The fans are complaining for the poor performances and their last one was the home defeat against Swansea (0-2). Mr. Wenger and his players will look for a win at Georgios Karaiskakis that may give them the first place in Group B only IF Schalke fails to win Montpelier away.
At the same time things look very good for the Greek Champions. They have the luxury of constantly rotating their lineup for the domestic competitions (Super League, Greek Cup) in order to protect key players for their European matches. Despite their “experiments” the Champions have won 11 of their 13 league matches and have not suffered any defeat yet. The chairman, Mr. Marinakis, has asked to the players to win both upcoming matches against Arsenal at home and Panathinaikos at OAKA and a new bonus seems to be on the way if they will make it.
Motive is a key factor when we reach the last matches of the Group Stage. Any positive result for Olympiakos and especially a win over the English team will allow the Greek Champions to be included in the strong clubs of the draw that will follow. At the same time Arsenal hopes for a miracle to take the first place of Group B. In this scenario, Schalke must NOT win Montpelier on their away match and Arsenal must win Olympiakos at Georgios Karaiskakis.
To make things short, Schalke must commit suicide against the worst club of the Group and, at the same time, Olympiakos must lose a home match before the rivalry battle against Panathinaikos. I do not know if you have noticed it but this is quite a long shot.
Betting pick: Over 3.5 goals @ 3.25
Olympiakos has received goals in both home matches against Schalke (1-2) and Montpelier (3-1). The odds for the home win and over 2.5 goals keep falling and I do not find them interesting any more. However, I cannot explain why the odds offered on over 3.5 goals have begun to rise.
