Atromitos in need of a miracle
I do not know about the players of Atromitos but I feel that the team from Peristeri could have done better last night. During the first half both teams had nothing great to show. The players of the home team were careful on their defensive duties with Alkmaar waiting patiently for a chance to score.
Gudmundsson decided to set the match on fire during the second half with a goal at 51′. The home team had to open and look for the equalizer which gave Johannsson the chance to score the second goal for his team at 72′.
Dimitrios Papadopoulos put Atromitos back on the match two minutes (74′) later with a penalty kick. The rest of the match went on in run and gun style. Atromitos opened up giving Alkmaar more room for counter attacks. Any of the two teams could have scored and, sadly for the home side, Gudmundsson scored again at 90′ ending any all their hopes for the rematch. Coach Parashos stated after the final whistle that Alkmaar was very effective in offense and that their opponents did not forgive the defensive mistakes of his players.
The truth is that something seems to be wrong in Atromitos’ defense. They have received goals in all their preparation friendlies, two more in the opening match of the season against the newcomers of Ergotelis (2-2 at home) and three more against Alkmaar. Things are not expected to be easy at all this Sunday in the away match against Olympiakos at Georgios Karaiskakis…
